The Project That Started It All
Basic to Boutique.
The design began with one of her favorite LoveShackFancy prints and grew from there. I chose a few special pieces to build the room around, focusing on items she truly loved and could continue to use beyond her freshman year. By mixing those investment pieces with practical finds and creative solutions, I was able to create a space that felt elevated, personal, and uniquely hers—without every piece needing to be a splurge.
How It Started
From a love of beautiful spaces.
When it came time to send my daughter away to college, I knew I couldn't bring home with her, but I could create a space that gave her that same feeling.
I wanted her dorm to feel warm, welcoming and full of love. A place that felt familiar and personal to her, where she could walk in at the end of a long day and feel comfortable, happy and completely at home.
It was never just about making a dorm room pretty. It was about creating a space she would truly love being in — her own little piece of home, hundreds of miles away.
That feeling is at the heart of Ruffles and Roses Design Co. I believe the spaces around us should feel just as special as they look, and sometimes it's the smallest, most thoughtful details that make a space feel like yours.

The Details That Made It Hers
The finishing details are what transformed this space from a standard dorm room into something that felt completely custom.
When I couldn't find exactly what I envisioned for the space, I created it. From custom artwork and decorative details to creative storage solutions, each piece was thoughtfully designed to bring the entire look together. My goal was to create a space that felt completely custom and beautifully cohesive, while still being comfortable, functional, and practical for everyday living.
Rather than simply filling a dorm room with pretty things, I wanted each element to work together — from the artwork on the walls to the smallest decorative touches. Layering these one-of-a-kind details with beautiful, functional pieces gave the room personality, warmth and a polished, elevated feel while still making the most of a very small space.
The result was a space that didn't feel temporary or ordinary. It felt collected, personal and completely hers.
Because sometimes, it's the smallest details that make a space feel truly special.

The Dress Form
Originally designed as the centerpiece of Malaina's graduation display, she loved it so much she brought it with her to the dorm — where it now lives in her room, starring in her outfit of the day TikTok posts.
That's the magic of truly custom design.
Beyond the Bedroom
The Heart of the Suite
I wanted the living room to feel like the heart of the suite — a cozy, welcoming place to gather, relax and feel at home. I softened the existing modular sofa with velour covers, then created custom pillows and shams to give it a more polished, intentional look.
With limited space, every piece needed a purpose. A storage ottoman kept extra blankets tucked away, while furniture that couldn't be removed was cleverly hidden beneath the beds and used for additional storage.
To make the space feel truly designed rather than simply decorated, I created custom artwork specifically for the room, tying together the colors, details and personality of the space. I wanted it to feel distinctive and personal — not like another version of the dorm just down the hall.
By working creatively with what was already there and adding thoughtful, custom details, a standard dorm common area became a living space that felt completely its own.
